Why is the largest line the filer's own holding company?

Icahn Enterprises LP is a listed limited partnership whose units trade on Nasdaq under IEP. The 13F is filed by Carl Icahn as the reporting manager for the group, and the units he and his affiliates hold in that partnership are Section 13(f) securities, so they are reported like any other position. The effect is that 53.95% of the $8.26B "portfolio" is a stake in the group's own listed vehicle, and the operating businesses that IEP itself owns are not broken out here. CVR Energy (23.73%) and CVR Partners (5.62%) are listed vehicles the group controls, the latter through CVR Energy, also reported as lines. Read the remaining lines, roughly $1.4B, as the externally held US equity book.

What changed between the Q1 2026 and Q2 2026 filings?

Flock matches the two filings position by position and ranks on share-count changes. From the "Changes vs Q1 2026" section, read 19 September 2026:

  • Increases: Icahn Enterprises LP (+68,992,804 units; reported value change +$310.6M) and SandRidge Energy (+107,206 shares; reported value change -$11.4M, so the price fell more than the share count rose).
  • Decreases: American Electric Power (-770,590 shares; -$98.5M) and JetBlue Airways (-12,963,556 shares; -$30.2M).
  • Newly reported or dropped: none. The filing has 12 lines in both quarters.

The IEP increase is the one to read carefully. A rise in the number of IEP units held can come from purchases, from distributions paid in units, or from other partnership-level events, and the 13F does not distinguish between them. IEP's own SEC filings, including its Forms 8-K and 10-Q, are where that answer lives.

How to read the Icahn Enterprises 13F

Separate the self-holding from the rest. Just over 83% of reported value (IEP, CVR Energy, CVR Partners) is stakes in vehicles the group controls. That is a fact the filing states and one that a raw "top holdings" list hides.

Quarter-end, filed six weeks later. Positions are as of 30 June 2026 and became public on 14 August 2026. The Q3 2026 filing is due within 45 days of 30 September 2026.

The CIK belongs to the person. EDGAR's conformed name for CIK 0000921669 is "Icahn Carl C". Flock's page labels the filer Icahn Enterprises, with the CIK shown, because that is the name people search; the filing itself is made in Carl Icahn's name as reporting manager.

Long US-listed positions only. Short positions and derivatives that are not on the SEC's 13(f) list do not appear. Activist positions are often also disclosed on Schedule 13D, which is filed within days of crossing 5% rather than quarterly; see Schedule 13D vs 13G and how 13F differs from 13D.
